His Excellency President Peter M. Christian receives credentials for Ambassador Tibor Shalev-Schlosser of Israel

On Tuesday April 4, 2017 President Peter M. Christian received Ambassador Tibor Shalev-Schlosser of Israel in a Presentation of Credential ceremony held in his conference room in Palikir, Pohnpei. In the ceremony, Ambassador Schlosser presented the letter of recall of his predecessor and his letter of credence to President Christian accrediting him as the new Israel Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). Ambassador Schlosser is based in Jerusalem and his area of responsibilities covers the Pacific region, including the FSM.

The ceremony was followed by a courtesy call whereby Ambassador Schlosser also conveyed warm regards to the President from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the people of Israel and his predecessor, Ambassador Michael Ronen. Ambassador Schlosser thanked President Christian for accepting his letter of credence and stressed the importance of fulfilling his accreditation in the North Pacific, especially to the FSM.

President Christian and Ambassador Schlosser discussed, among other issues, the special friendship enjoyed between Israel and the FSM as confirmed by FSM’s continuing support of Israel on issues of mutual interests in the United Nations. They also discussed shared Judeo-Christian beliefs and values as well as democratic values and principles that strengthen the support and friendship of the two nations.

Ambassador Schlosser discussed with the President the availability of technical assistance from Israel in areas of education, health and agriculture in form of trainings and provisioning of experts to the FSM. He asserted the benefits of the training courses and encouraged the FSM to take advantage of these opportunities. Ambassador Schlosser also mentioned an invitation to President Christian to visit Israel. President Christian had visited Israel in the past in his capacity as Speaker of the FSM Congress.

President Christian congratulated Ambassador Schlosser for his new post and assured the Ambassador of FSM’s desire for global peace and security.

Ambassador Schlosser was accompanied by Israel Honorary Consul to the FSM, Mr. Reed B. Oliver. Also in attendance from the FSM Government were Vice-President Yosiwo P. George and members of the cabinet.
