FSM Embassy Celebrates the 30th National Day in Beijing

Ambassador Carlson D. Apis hosted a celebration in honor of the 30th Anniversary of the FSM National Day at the Renaissance Capital Hotel in Beijing.  The celebration brought together representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, the Pacific Community in Beijing and other private sector representatives. 

In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Apis touched on the FSM’s history and process for self-determination.  The Ambassador expressed his appreciation to all those who had helped the FSM along the way including the People’s Republic of China.  China has been an important development partner and has assisted the FSM bilaterally, regionally and internationally on many issues of mutual interest.  Ambassador Apis thanked China for all its assistance and reiterated the FSM’s strong support to the One China Policy.

Responding to Ambassador Apis, China’s Special Envoy to the Pacific Islands Forum Dialogue, Ambassador Du Qiwen congratulated the FSM on its 30th National Day celebration.  He reiterated the cooperative relationship that exists between the two countries and encouraged Ambassador Apis to continue the good work he has done here in China to promote the friendly relationship between FSM and China. 

Representing the FSM in the celebration were the Embassy Staff and families and FSM students studying in Beijing under the Chinese Government scholarship program.  Pacific representatives included the Ambassadors from Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and Vanuatu and their respective families and staff.  Other businesses and friends of the FSM were in attendance to show their support.
