New FSM Scholarship Board awards Graduate Scholarships

Press Release from the FSM Scholarship Board

The FSM Scholarship Board met on January 28, 2010 to determine scholarship amounts for graduate students who have completed their applications prior to the meeting.  Note that these awards are recommendations that will be forwarded to the President for his approval. 
 
The total amount of sin tax available for this quarter was $227,774.00.  The Board awarded a total of $185,250.00 and has $42,524.00 remaining for other applicants.  If it is not used it will be carried forward into the next quarter to be added sin tax for subsequent determination by the Board.  Please note that the Board agreed to a "gag order" as to specific amounts disbursed for graduated students.  In other words, only the FSM Scholarship staff may disclose the amounts to the students who have been awarded a scholarship.  If you are a graduate student and want to know your specific amount awarded, if any, please contact the FSM Scholarship staff by email or telephone at wmendiola@fsmed.fm or jsienes@fsmed.fm or 320-2091/2451.
 
The next Board meeting will be on February 4, 2010 for undergraduate students.  As for now we have over 140 applicants and only $74,672.00 available for awarding.  The Board will issue another release immediately following that meeting.
 
On behalf of the Chairwoman and Board members, we ask for your patience as we continue to work towards transparency and fairness for all students.  We are also working diligently to modify the current system so that funds are made available much sooner.
