FSM Embassy Maintains Close Working Relationship with Yiwu, Zhejiang Province Press Release #0409-43 April 15, 2009 (FSM Embassy, Beijing) Chargé d’Affaires Carl D. Apis and First Secretary Vincent Sivas met with a visiting official of the Foreign & Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Yiwu Municipal People’s Government, Ms. Fan Li Li (Lilly) who was in Beijing for official business. Ms. Fan has been responsible for the coordination of visits of several delegations from the Federated States of Micronesia who had visited Yiwu in the past. Ms. Fan is currently the Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Service Center of the Foreign & Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Yiwu Municipal People’s Government and has maintained a good and cooperative working relationship with the FSM Embassy in Beijing. During the meeting, both sides exchanged pleasantries and expressed desires to continue to work together for the promotion of the “FSM-China Model Relationship.” The Embassy is currently working with Ms. Fan and the Yiwu Municipal People’s Government on the visit of a delegation to the FSM to further enhance the friendly bilateral relations between the FSM and China. The delegation will be looking at mutually beneficial areas of cooperation. The proposed visit of the delegation is currently under review by the Chinese Central Government and is expected to be approved soon. Further details of the proposed visit will be provided when made available. The Embassy looks forward to working with the FSM Department of Resources and Development and the respective state Chambers of Commerce to make this proposed visit successful. Yiwu is located in Zhejiang province, the sister city of Pohnpei State. Yiwu is also host to the China Yiwu International Commodities Fair which is the largest daily commodities fair on scale. The Fair is organized by the Yiwu China Commodity City Exhibition Co., Ltd. and sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and Zhejiang Provincial People's Government. |
