FSM Women Conference Planning Council Meets in Palikir Press Release #0409-35 More than forty women from around the FSM (thirteen (13) from the FSM National Government, two (2) from COM-FSM, eleven (11) from Pohnpei, eleven (11) from Kosrae, seven (7) from Chuuk and three (3) from Yap) participated in the FSM 2010 Women Conference Planning Council meeting at the FSM Central Facility to open their three-day meeting slated for April 21 to April 23 2009. Mrs. Eden Skilling gave the opening prayer and Ms. SeNellie Singeo did the opening remarks on behalf of Mrs. Nancy Edward and the Pohnpei delegation, and welcomed the participants and wished the meeting a productive outcome. In her opening remarks, after the introduction of participants, Dr. Vita Skilling, Secretary of Health and Social Affairs, told the ladies that from today forward every woman should add to their introduction list that they are “Domestic Managers”, not just a housewife or no occupation. She also conveyed her anticipation of full cooperation and valuable insights from all participants. Among the high level women that came together for this FSM 2010 Women Conference planning council meeting were: The FSM’s First Lady - Emma S. Nelson-Mori, Mrs. Shra Alik – spouse of Vice President Alik, Pohnpei State Senator - Hon. Magdalena Walter, First Lady of Yap State – Mrs. Marita Anefal, First Lady of Kosrae State – Mrs. Josepha Weilbacher, Mrs. Nancy Lynn Churchill - spouse of Lt. Governor of Pohnpei, and Mrs. Bersita Elimo – spouse of Lt. Governor of Chuuk State. Two presentations were presented in the morning of the first day of the meeting. One was on Cervical Cancer &HPV Vaccine, presented by Dr. Anna Maria Yomai and Carte Apaisam from the Immunization Program, and the other was on Community Preparedness on Disaster and was presented by Arthy Nena and Benito Cantero from the Bioterrorism Program. The outcome of the meeting will be shared after the meeting ends on Thursday April 23, 2009. This event was organized by the FSM National Government Women Employees Working Group and the Department of Health and Social Affairs. |
